Archdiocese Lists Historic Properties for Sealed Bid Sale
Posted by: | Comments
Over 30 archdiocesan-owned, under-performing properties are currently for sale, including two historic sites:
- St. Maurice Church, School, Rectory, and Gym on full city block in Holy Cross (right)
- Sts. Peter and Paul Church, School, Rectory, and Convent in Faubourg Marigny (below)
On October 1, 2012, a sealed bid sale opened with the purpose of returning over 30 unused or under-performing properties owned by the Archdiocese of New Orleans back into commerce. Many of the properties listed are gifts of donated lots in Louisiana and Mississippi that have never been put into use. Others are under-performing properties that the church cannot develop at this time. After careful review by the archdiocese and several consulting bodies, the archdiocese has decided to sell these properties to reduce continuing liability and maintenance costs and return the properties to commerce.
The sale is being managed by Re/Max Commercial Brokers and the complete listing of properties along with instructions on how to participate in the bid process can be found online at http://mysealedbid.com. For more information about the sale contact John Gilbert via email atjgilbert@nolacommercial.com or via fax at (504) 835-0900.
All proceeds from the sale of these surplus properties will support the ministry of the local Catholic Church. Regarding properties that are part of a parish, the funds will go first to paying off any debt and expenses the parish has incurred in insurance and maintenance and remaining funds will then be transferred to the church parish.
