“Zombie Demolitions”: 28 Imminent FEMA Funded Demolitions
Posted by: | CommentsThe 28 houses listed below are proposed for demolition using FEMA funds. Pre-demolition treatment measures & salvage assessments will be conducted in the next few weeks. Permitting, utility disconnects, and asbestos inspections are all that these properties are pending . All have been approved by local historic districts for demolition or are exempt from HDLC or NCDC review. The following buildings in the Central City National Register Historic District were submitted by the City of New Orleans for demolition using FEMA funding. Some of the properties are active and the demolition approval process is moving forward. Some, however, are no longer eligible for FEMA funding for a variety of reasons, as indicated below. “Zombie Demolitions” – 9 FEMA Funded Demolitions Are Moving Forward, Comments Requested

The first of the historic “zombie demolitions” (FEMA funded demolitions) are being reviewed. On November 16, PRC staff attended an “alternatives to demolition” meeting with FEMA as well as representatives from the city and state.
