City Planning Commission Approves Neighborhood Participation Program
ByAt its July 24 meeting, the New Orleans City Planning Commission (CPC) voted 5 to 0 to approve the Neighborhood
Participation Program (NPP). The program is aimed at increasing residents’ awareness and participation in land use decisions in their neighborhoods. It will establish requirements for notifying community members about development in their neighborhoods. The NPP will also require developers to meet with residents and submit a report of this meeting before submitting a development request application to CPC.
The NPP is a significant step forward for community engagement in the planning process in New Orleans. CPC’s NPP will now go to City Council for review and final adoption, which could happen as soon as August. You can view the draft NPP online HERE.
