PRESS RELEASE FROM CM. STACY HEAD
On June 2 and 14, 2011 in the Civil District Court first floor lobby at noon, over a dozen blighted properties located in District “B” will be sold at Sheriff Sale. (Note: the Sale is not limited to District B properties. Sale listings can be found on the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office website.)
Councilmember Head stated, “I am pleased that the Sheriff Sale process, which I successfully lobbied for during the 2007 legislative session, is now moving dozens (and soon, hopefully hundreds) of properties in marketable areas like Mid-City out of the hands of problem owners and into commerce. Many of these properties are located in areas with strong market value. I hope that first time home buyers, neighbors and developers will take advantage of this great opportunity to increase personal wealth and reduce blight in our neighborhoods.”
The properties that are now slated for sale include:
2418 General Taylor St.
The properties will go up for bid for two-thirds of the appraised value. Sale listings can be found on the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office website. If owners pay off the judgment against them, their property will be removed from the sale, so check the Sheriff’s website for updates! Learn more about the Sheriff Sale process here.

Council Member Stacy Head and the Preservation Resource Center have been pushing hard to get the word out. [...]
