Results from the NCDC Meeting Nov 2, 2009
ByThe PRC is very happy to report that the dogtrot at 2311 Iberville Street was denied for demolition by the NCDC committee today.
We took a strong position against the demolition of this property because of the uniqueness of New Orleans dogtrots. Dogtrots are found throughout the rural South and Appalachia; however, New Orleans dogtrots are unique in use and construction from all other dogtrots in the country. They are also understudied, so they must be preserved so that we may one day understand their construction, origins, and their connection to rural dogtrots. More about this historic housing type can be found here.
